HOLISTIC HEALTH & WELLNESS FOR DOGS, CATS & SMALL ANIMALS
Dr David Evans DVM offers phone consultations for people who are looking for a more holistic approach to the care of their pet. As a classically trained Veterinarian who uses Homeopathy and other holistic modalities, Dr Evans can offer greater insight into your pets' wellbeing from a holistic care perspective as well as alternative solutions to routine vaccines, drugs and medications.
Holistic Veterinary Consultations
As a Veterinarian, I get calls daily from people asking for help with their pets' health. Questions about what choices are available to treat acute conditions that don't involve drugs. What can be done about vaccines and their possible side effects? Do I need to vaccinate and how often? Are there alternative options? Are there any alternative approaches to allergy treatments that minimize drug use or even avoid them completely? What is the best diet for my pet and do they need supplements?
How Can Homeopathy Support Your Pet's Health?
Homeopathy is a natural, holistic system for healing that works by eliminating the underlying imbalance in a pet’s body that is causing unwanted symptoms.
In homeopathy, health is defined as not just the absence of symptoms, but a feeling of well-being and vitality. The principles of homeopathy state that there are three possible outcomes of any treatment: suppression, palliation, and cure. The goal of homeopathic treatments is to cure, meaning that the body eliminates the whole disease, not just symptoms, and rises to a state of optimum health.
A Bit About Dr Evans
Dr. Evans was born in Manchester, England and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1972. His special interest in dermatology led him to look for alternative ways to treat chronic problems.
A personal experience with acupuncture and homeopathy caused him to explore these treatment options. He has studied with Dr Paul Herscu, a naturopathic physician who specializes in homeopathy, and with Dr Richard Pitcairn, a revered Homeopathic Veterinarian in the US. (https://www.drpitcairn.com)
Graduating and certifying in 1986 from the Professional Course in Veterinary Homeopathy, and going on to teach Dr Pitcairn’s Course in Canada for several years, he began to incorporate homeopathy into his practice. By introducing a more balanced form of medicine he was able to offer a much broader and sensible health care approach to his patients. Avoiding some of the negative side effects of medications and vaccines was a blessing to the patients and clients and his practice began to draw patients from all over NS.
Dr Evans has enjoyed lecturing to dog clubs and interested public groups on holistic approaches to healing and preventive health care. He retired from his practice in Chester Basin, Nova Scotia in 2015 and did locum work until retiring altogether in March 2023. During this locum work he saw the need for access to advice for a more balanced approach to health care. Questions such as vaccine choices and frequency, parasite control, healthy diets and nutritional supplements and treatment options that might not have been known to other practitioners.
Dr Evans does NOT offer diagnosis but he DOES offer advice to make your decisions more balanced and fitting with your feelings as a guardian of that special pet in your life. That is the purpose of this service. Rather than “Dr Google” you can talk to him one-on-one with specific concerns and questions.
